III. Guest Speakers: Richard Lovrich A native of the Bronx, first generation American Richard Lovrich attended the Ridgewood School of Art in New Jersey for illustration and Manhattan’s Parsons School of Design for both photography and illustration. He began his professional career by assisting at the very busy fashion studio of strikingly talented photographer Ted Hardin, before opening his own photo and design studio, serving clients in banking, pharmaceuticals and fashion.  Career studio highlights were sessions with President Ford, and Andy Warhol, long term assignments with Vitro Mexico, Lancôme, Johnson and Johnson, as well as CITIBANK. For men’s clothier Botany 500, Richard designed the opening of their, and the America’s first store to establish itself after the fall of the Soviet Union, located at the GUM in Moscow’s Red Square.  In 1996 he accepted a job as a editorial artist in the Capital Region of New York with  the Albany Times-Union, where he rose in position to that of the paper’s first Art Director.  There, he left his mark on publications, Food Source, Capitaland Report, Last Call, and was awarded the paper and Hearst’s, coveted Eagle Award. Before leaving the news business, he led the team which rebranded the Pepsi to become the Times Union Center.  After a fateful breakfast, he accepted an offer from visionary impresario, cultural entrepreneur and CEO of Proctors, Philip Morris. Richard oversaw image and materials for the then, single and singular theater’s dramatic rebirth and rise to regional  pre-eminence. He currently holds the position of Creative Director for Proctors, Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, Saratoga Springs’ Universal Preservation Hall, and the capital region’s independent newsweekly, theAlt. Lovrich lives, with wife, commercial stylist, Lynne Signore and dog Max among wooded bliss, in Guilderland. They are the very proud parents of beloved, grown daughters, Hayden and Glenn, and grandparents to precious, Ayana.  When he isn’t working, you might find Lovrich reading one of his many, darkly humorous, short stories, “The Regrettable Tales” at a local nightspot, or capturing the portrait of an area creative. He is also the co-leader of the upstate New York chapter of the Alpha 1 foundation’s support group. Richard will continue focusing his Leica’s lens on Alpha 1 victims the world over, until there is total awareness of this, the leading genetic cause of COPD and of course, a cure.
