On the television side, Heidi Elizabeth worked in both presenting, reporting and associate producing for the internationally broadcast television station, Deutsche Welle-TV: presenting the weather before a world-wide audience of 55 million viewers daily with "The Journal," reporting from the Red Carpet of the Berlin Film Festival and engaging in voice-over work at the legendary Grundy Ufa Studios in Babelsberg for American films such as Fox Television's for-tv feature Terror in the Mall.
Upon returning to the States, Heidi Elizabeth pursued and completed her Masters in International Affairs at Columbia University's School of Public & International Affairs in International Media & Communications with a focus on the European Union. While at Columbia, she interned with ABC's Good Morning America Consumer News Unit, as well as CBS's 48 Hours, CARE International and Wim Wender's Film Development Company, Road Movies, GmbH, in Berlin, Germany.

Schreiber Studios and the Stella Adler Studios, while performing Off-Broadway in such shows as Angry Jello Bubbles, and Prelude to a Kiss at the Gloria Maddox Theater and, regionally, at Jeff Daniel's professional theater, The Purple Rose Theatre, in Chelsea, Michigan.
In 2005, she started the socially motivated local theater ensemble, The Personae Ensemble, producing and directing William Mastrosimone’s Extremities and Anne Nelson’s The Guys, and enrolled at the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, where she was mentored by industry professionals Doug Schulze, Kurt Mayry and Kathryn McDermott, and wrote and directed her thesis short “A Fork in the Road” for which she received the Best Screenplay award and was nominated for Best Director at the MPI Student Film Festival. “A Fork in the Road” was a part of the official of the Reel Women International Film Festival in Beverly Hills, C.A. on March 8, 2008. UI March 2014 Meeting Agenda - February 22, 2014
Meeting date: March 4th

2. Guest Speaker: Jared Balog
From the moment Jared laid eyes on a television screen he was influenced by the height of 80’s horror and slasher films. Favorites include “Friday the 13th”, Halloween” and “Nightmare on Elm street” as well as a wide variety of Asian horror films, which is easy to spot in his art work and films. The extremely poignant elements of death, blood and gore, which resonated so strongly in these films, are what inspired him to study the craft of special effects make-up, reading books from Tom Savini, studying videos of molds and sculpture design, and taking a brief understudy course with legendary special effects artist Dick Smith. One of the most important factors of his incredible and unique talent is the skill and dedicated effort to make all effects and images “real”. Unlike many, he exhibits the ability to create versatile special effects and makeup artistry for any project given to him and always welcomes a new challenge to test his skills.
Over ten years later, Jared still draws incessantly, even if it’s just a small five minute sketch of creature designs, practical effects scenes for films or flutters and splatters of horrific blood bath scenes. His art includes character and creature sketches, sculptures and masks, the unmatchable skill of death and carnage which is sought out by many local filmmakers and outside collectors, and in-depth, detailed works of the walking dead (a rare skill to find outside of Hollywood).

Currently he is the founder of How to UnMake A Bully, which partnered with The DON’T WAIT® Project—and both recently with Matthew McConaughey’s j.k. livin’ foundation in L.A. The students' work has screened in global festivals, theaters, national television, and recently on FOX affiliates. This work earned him the honor of June 14th being proclaimed as “Mr. Mike Day” throughout the upstate NY town of Scotia-Glenville. Michael’s educational series How to UnMake A Bully has since earned a Telly Award, a Sage Colleges Champion of Character Award, and endorsements from the Kids’ First Coalition for Quality Children’s Media and dozens of the nation’s teachers and organizations. It also won “Best Foreign Screenplay” at Sydney KidzFlicks 2013. Mike will commence a 2nd biannual residency in Melbourne in 2015. The UnMake movies are used in classrooms around the world, and are distributed by international organizations, often regarded as the “best tools available” for antibullying instruction and awareness. He has also won Telly Awards for his work on regional campaigns for Ellis Hospital in the Capital Region, and for work done with Activision for President Obama and the Change the Equation campaign for STEM fields.
